The new system will cost PTE 1.2 billion and will cover 800 buses and 200 stops.
Carris signed yesterday a contract for the supply of a system which will allow next bus times to be displayed on panels at stops. The new information system will start operating one year from now, at which time 80 buses and 20 stops out of a total of 800 buses and 200 stops will be equipped. In emergency situations, it will be possible to transmit live images of the inside of the bus to police monitoring stations.
The operational support system will be implemented by a consortium consisting of Efacec, Radiomóvel and Tecmic, and will cost a total of PTE 1.2 billion, although the first phase of the project will cost PTE 360 million. The control centre, housing the communications server, will need to be operational by March of next year.
