On-Board Technology – Approach should be systematic

Miguel Rodrigues, Tecmic’s Passenger Transport Business Area Director, tells us about the importance of on-board technical systems for the adaptation and improvement of Passenger Transport driving behaviours. Energy efficiency is increasingly the centre of discussion. To what extent can Tecmic’s solutions provide an answer to the main concerns of operators? Is there any project that stands out?
Miguel Rodrigues – Tecmic was a pioneer in embracing these kinds of concerns, even before the increase in energy prices put the world on alert […] With our platform the operator can, through the use of a systematic and uniform mechanism, manage both the vehicle’s and the driver’s performance, allowing the strengthening of a reward culture within a sector where often the quantification of performance and motivation is difficult to achieve.
Clients such as CARRIS and Grupo Luis Simões are two examples of companies that have adhered to our approach, which has also raised interest from some business associations within the sector (…).

From the functional point of view and concerning solutions, what are the developments that can be expected in this domain?
At Tecmic we are constantly evolving our systems and at the conceptual level we have lots of ideas being tested… However, there are recent XTraN Passenger modules that are effectively new. Besides the Driving Monitor module, we have the Passenger Counting System module (Counter) and on-board information module (Infotainer) that is a mix between service information and multimedia contents (advertising) (…) but there is more and basically I would say that we are currently expanding our offer in a very interesting way for clients that work with us.
