Six Portuguese companies are developing a system that promises to put an end to the thousands of lost bags in airports.
(…)The Secure Luggage project (…) predicts the development of two different systems: one that allows the identification and tracking of bags with chips inside airports and the other that consists of bag personalisation giving worldwide control over the bag through GPS/GSM technology.
The consortium for the development of this system is composed of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal – that in 2007 had to deal with more than 400 lost bags per day- ; the University of Minho, Pólo de Inovação em Engenharia de Polímeros (PIEP); Inesc Inovação; Instituto de Novas Tecnologias; Critical Software and Tecmic – Tecnologias de Microelectrónica.
